Presenting ‘Lazarus’ by Brian Gallagher

Gallagher Horner’s co-founder Brian puts his heart and soul into every photographic collection, and none more so than his most recent, the British Hairdressing Award-nominated ‘Lazarus.’ Inspired by the influence of shadow and light on an image, Brian has created a 3D fusion of cuts and colours with an almost ethereal feel. Working with strategic colour placement enhanced by a kaleidoscope of paintbox brights, the hair takes on an other-worldly appearance inspired by the imaginings of modern day icon David Bowie.

2016: The year of the curl

2016 is the year of the curl. Texture is getting bigger and bolder and if you were lucky enough to be born with naturally curly hair, then now is the time to embrace it (just check out Mica Arganaraz in the latest H&M campaign, pictured below).

While this trend might be all about enhancing your natural texture, there’s still a little work to be put in. Curly hair tends to be fairly coarse, which means that it can lose moisture more easily and dry out at the ends. To combat this, look for care products that are moisturising or frizz-taming; while some natural flyaways are inevitable, a full head of frizz isn’t high on most people’s wish lists.

When it comes to styling your curls, I always advise clients to avoid too much ‘fuss.’ The more you handle the hair, the more chance you stand of roughing up the cuticle and causing frizz. Use a towel to pat – rather than rub – hair to absorb excess moisture, then apply your choice of styling product generously to the mid-lengths and ends of the hair. Right now, I love L’Oreal Professionnel Dual Stylers Bouncy & Tender (picture below), which creates that soft, touchable finish you are aiming for – not a hint of 1980s ‘crunch!’

Use a diffuser attachment to disperse the airflow from your hairdryer and help lift and shape the curls rather than flatten them. Avoid brushes and combs and instead, use your fingers to coax hair into place, winding sections around your finger for more texture. Finally, use a little more product to add definition where needed. Voila – 2016’s biggest trend – nailed!

Well done to G&H’s Creative Stylist Thomas, who’s just back from a stint backstage at Graduate Fashion Week in London.

Assisting Hair Directors Andrea Daley and Lisa Rhead as part of the L’Oreal Professionel Portfolio Session Team, Thomas styled for catwalks East and West at the Old Truman Brewery in hipster-central Brick Lane. Fashionista favourite TecniArt was the product range responsible for all the stunning looks you see here. Awesome work Thomas!

Summer hairstyles can be a challenge. With festivals and summer garden parties fast approaching, it’s difficult to know which style will be best for the occasion. You can play it safe with waves or try an intricate up do, sure to see your hair through from day to night. Or why not try an effortless braid, perfect for those in between wash days. Whatever the occasion, here at Gallagher & Horner we can make sure your hair’s summer ready.

Who wore it best at the Met Gala?

We were absolutely blown away by some of the looks showcased at the Met Gala in New York, which took place Monday 4th May. Not only were the outfits insatiable but also the hair really did impress. With high ponytails making appearances on Fall 2015 runways, Beyonce totally worked it with her cascading curls. Meanwhile Rhiannna stole the show with a jeweled headpiece and retro flicks, looking extremely elegant. To top it all off, Sarah Jessica Parker pushed the boat out with an amazing Japanese inspired headpiece, teamed with bold, jade eyes and simples tousled waves.

Best Celebrity Re-styles

Spring is often a time for style change and we’re loving what’s new from some of our favourite names in celeb land. From candy floss colours to short crops, Instagram has been the place for the grand reveal for hair changes and updates. Hilary Duff has gone for a granny grey hue, one of this season tipped colours. As well as this Cheryl is rocking the choppy bob with a cherry red going through and meanwhile Lady Gaga and Christina Aguilera have gone back to black for a more natural appeal. Which look will you try next?

Beautiful Blondes and Braids and Waves

Brian tells all about Blondes for SS15!

“Fusing apricot misty lilacs and minty hues, blonde’s really are having more fun this season. Mid lengths and ends are blending seamlessly with blonde and pastelised hair to give a three dimensional kick”

And meanwhile…

We are seeing plenty of braids and waves. To achieve that Boho chic look it’s all about less is more. Tuck your tresses behind the ear, pull to side and loosely plait for that effortless effect. For a look slightly edgier style, plait whilst wet and leave overnight, you’ll wake up with cool easy waves ready for a day in the sun.
